FightTheStroke non ha ancora compiuto i due anni di vita associativa ma ci fa piacere celebrare con voi le prime tappe di sviluppo raggiunte, passo dopo passo.
Aver conosciuto il mondo TED ha rappresentato per noi un momento di profondo cambiamento, ed è per questo che continuiamo a ringraziare questa comunità: il nostro TED talk ha superato le 950.000 views sulla sola piattaforma TED e nel 2015 abbiamo partecipato con Mario ad almeno 10 eventi TED e TEDx sul territorio, raccontato un aggiornamento dei nostri progetti al TEDxBergamo e siamo stati ancora ambasciatori del TEDMED in Italia, l’evento dedicato a innovazione e medicina.
Quest’anno ci siamo messi alla prova anche con un libro, un’operazione di medicina narrativa e di ispirazione anche per altre famiglie; ancora un’occasione per raccogliere fondi e per parlare del problema dell’ictus in età giovanile, sia sui media (oltre 200 mentions) che partecipando ad oltre 100 eventi di settore, in Italia e all’estero. Dai convegni medici al World Business Forum, non abbiamo perso occasione di promuovere la nostra causa e testare dal vivo le nostre idee.
Coerenti con la nostra missione, di continuare a lottare per i giovani sopravvissuti all’ictus e per le loro famiglie, abbiamo consolidato il gruppo chiuso dei genitori su Facebook, una piattaforma di aiuto e co-creazione per chi, come noi, non trovava risposte altrove: insieme ad altri 400 genitori in Italia e in network con le Associazioni di categoria mondiali, abbiamo organizzato il Primo Meeting delle Famiglie Italiane; celebrato il World Stroke Day; redatto materiali informativi per le nuove famiglie e un primo censimento di strutture medico-riabilitative in Italia; incluso la categoria dei piccoli emiplegici in un grande Camp estivo e aiutato la diagnosi precoce di alcuni bimbi. Una missione impensabile da raggiungere in così poco tempo, se fossimo stati da soli, ma da quest’anno con noi c’erano le famiglie di #fightthestroke.
Va a loro, a noi, il primo grazie.
Con l’estate è arrivato il riconoscimento dell'Ashoka Fellowship, che ha creduto nel valore scientifico e nell’innovazione del nostro modello di riabilitazione ‘Mirrorable’: grazie al supporto di due Hackathon Globali in Microsoft US e al riconoscimento dell’Ability Award for Community Service, siamo oggi arrivati al secondo prototipo di questa piattaforma e nel secondo semestre 2015 abbiamo iniziato il lungo processo di raccolta fondi per completarne lo sviluppo e la distribuzione.
Nel 2016 continueremo a concentrare i nostri sforzi su due fronti: lo sviluppo del modello di impresa sociale legato a Mirrorable e le attività di advocacy legate all’Associazione. Anche quest’anno, grazie ai workshop sulla Buona Sanità, sul Design e sullo Sport, all’interno dell'evento Call for Brain, abbiamo sviluppato nuove idee progettuali di cui vi daremo presto aggiornamenti. Era successo così anche per Mirrorable, frutto di un’idea condivisa nel 2014.
Un grazie al comitato di curatori scientifici che ci appoggia nelle nostre iniziative, al piccoli e grandi donatori che si ricordano di noi anche quando promuoviamo operazioni che fanno sorridere, e ai Corporate Donors che ci stanno accompagnando nelle sfide progettuali: sono tante le aziende che ad oggi ci riconoscono un portato di innovazione e di valori condivisi più che di carità; e quelle che alle celebrazioni Natalizie hanno preferito accompagnare il sostegno a Fightthestroke: grazie amici di We Are Social Italia e di Novatex.

FightTheStroke was born in mid-2014, so is still a young toddler, but we’d like to share with you our early stages of development, step by step.
Having met up with the TED community has definitely been a life changing experience for us, something to be grateful for: our TED talk reached more than 950.000 views on TED platform and, together with Mario, in 2015 we attended at least 10 TED and TEDx events, we told how we moved forward from ideas to actions at TEDxBergamo and we’ve been TEDMED ambassadors for the second year in a row.
In 2015 we also decided to publish a book, a 'narrative medicine' trial and a way to inspire also other families; a chance to fundraise and to spread knowledge on stroke at a young age, both on media (more than 200 mentions) and during more than 100 live events in Italy and abroad. From medical conferences to World Business Forum, we haven’t lost one single chance to promote our cause and to direct test our solutions.
Consistently with our mission, we enlarged our community on a closed group on Facebook, able to support and to co-create with those parents, like us, with unanswered questions: together with other 400 parents in Italy and connected with theInternational Alliance for Pediatric Stroke, we organized the First Italian Meeting of Hemikids and their families; we celebratedWorld Stroke Day; we contributed to write down informational brochures for new parents and a list of most popular centers for assessment and clinical management of our kids; we made possible for our hemikids to get into a Summer Camp and supported the early diagnosis and intervention for some of our families. Something inconceivable in such a limited period of time if we were alone, but since this year we’ve been united for pediatric stroke with our families.
Our gratitude goes first of all to them, to us.
In the second half of this year we celebrated the Ashoka Fellowship, thanks to the scientific and innovation value of our rehab platform, Mirrorable: during two Global Hackathons in Microsoft US and having been awarded with the Ability Prize for Community Service, today we reached the second prototype of our toolkit and we just started the long path for fundraising and completing the development of our solution.
In 2016 we’ll keep on focusing our efforts on two different streams: the development of a social enterprise linked to Mirrorable and advocacy activities linked to the Association. This year too, thanks to focused workshops on Healthcare, Design and Sport, during Call for Brain event, we developed new ideas we’ll report upon asap. It happened the same for Mirrorable, an idea born during Call for Brain in 2014.
We want to thank the scientific advisors always available to support our initiatives; those small and big donors in our network, always supportive even when we promote activities that make them smile; those Corporate Donors being with us on many shared values projects; and for this Xmas we’re especially grateful to We are Social Italia and Novatex.
